This Dog Bites!Fido "Elects" the Z1C?

Proclaimed as the first time the SysOps have had a say in the election of the Z1C, the election for replacing Bob Satti is underway in FidoNet's Zone 1. Does the individual SysOp really have any say? Most people feel not. The NC's are supposed to be polling their nets and reporting the results to their respective RC's. The RC's then, in the Super Secret Elflord Echo will be casting their votes. Will the NC's really poll the SysOps? Will the RC's really vote according to the wishes of their regions? Or will the RC's just vote however the hell they want as usual? FidoLose received an anonymous tip in PlainBrownWrapper mail that one RC was purported to be voting the way that RC deemed correct and the input of the NC's be damned. We have been unable to find anything further on that story but we haven't stopped hunting for more evidence. For you rumour mongers, none of the SUPER-BITCHes of the Zone were involved in this tip so look elsewhere.

The normal moderator of both the Z1_ELECTION and Z1_POLITICAL echo, Martin Belcke, has taken a backseat for this event feeling that it was best that a current RC not moderate these discussion echoes. He appointed Joe Jared the temporary Moderator of both echoes for the election period. We know Jared best as the R10ResidentVillageIdiotAndHotHead who loves power and Kontrol to the same extent as the departed R10C, Bob Kohl. Was there really a reason that Kohl insisted that the IQ fell at least 20 points or more when entering Orange County (CA)? Let's take a look at what happened when Jared and Kohl duked it out in 1997.

Jared, the surly NC shows true colors

With a reputation that preceeds him, FidoLose tried to find out why Jared was appointed as Moderator during an important time period for these echoes. Although Belcke was questioned about it in the echoes, he at first gave no answer. Later he indicated that the RCC (the collective RC's) were in favor of Jared's temporary postion. Hold on, Martin, you don't expect FidoLose to swallow that whopper do you? Martin is the Elisted password holder of the echoes to be used for discussion and all of the RC's horses and all of the RC's men (and women) can't force a Moderator to give up their position. Martin, we at FidoLose would like to know two things. Why did you say the RCC was in agreement with your appointment of Jared when that is not the case? You did it on your own. And secondly, why on earth did you chose Jared when many qualified people would have served the position better? We will give you equal time for your answer, Martin, and will place it here on the pages of FidoLose if you post it in either of the election echoes. Otherwise, we are going to think something very fishy was going on! Be forewarned.

Bob Satti had informed the Zone he was not going to seek another term as Z1C. The Zone waited and waited and waited and waited. It seems nothing was being done to find his replacement. Complaints were heard in the echoes and yet no response came forth. At long last, it was announced that Ross Cassell, R18C, was to be the Election Coordinator. Ross, who is an elected RC in the democratic tradition of allowing the SysOps have their say in FidoNet, was instrumental in getting the show on the road at long last. He made daily posts in many echoes informing the readers of the impending election along with a schedule of events. While some echo participants were miffed at his daily posting, FidoLose commends him for his excellent job in trying to see to it that the SysOps were informed to the best of his ability to do so. Further, Ross declared himself not eligible as a candidate in the election since he was acting as the EC. Now that's a man we can admire! Imagine if it had been Kohl who spurred on the ZEC election for his own purposes.

And so the election began! The candidates were nominated by the SysOps and the list includes (alphabetically by last name) Todd Cochrane, Dallas Hinton, David Moufarrege, Douglas Myers and Bobby Queen. The election was off to a rousing start when Todd showed all of Zone 1 that he cannot spell, has no sense of grammar and wants a "fight to the finish". Yes, Todd declared war in what was to be a competition of the best Fido has to offer for its Zone 1 Controller, err, Coordinator. The ZC is to lead the way into the Year 2000 and the 21st Century and many feel that if Todd is elected, the demise of FidoNet will be so immediate that any "New Year" issues will be unimportant.

The Super-Bitches of the Zone were quite concerned with Todd's total lack of communication skills and the fact that Todd proclaimed himself to be a FidoNet SysOp since 1987 or 1988. The SUPER-BITCH echo was laughing each day as Todd kept sticking his foot in his mouth with his every post. In one diatribe, Todd used the words "agenda", "henchmen" and "conspiracy" in the same post. Many were reminded of the underhanded political tactics that accompanied the ZEC election in 1998 when Bob Kohl won the election and Zorch, his chief guard dog, was asked mutitudinous times how many times he had voted in that election. Another connection was made for the times it was observed that posts did not seem to have originated from Todd (without help) and due to the fact that Todd wants one main backbone hub for echomail distribution. This Kontrol of echomail was something which Kohl and his various groupies had planned but which seemingly fell by the wayside. Lately it has been noted that Todd wishes to place echomail under some sort of yet to be determined policy which will allow the filing a complaint similar to a Policy Complaint. Excommication for echomail? He has to be kidding! It has been said almost one year ago in these same pages, that Kohl and Zorch dearly wished such a method of Kontrol. By reading the Policy Complaint that the four clowns filed against Ruth Argust, it is clear to see that their accusations were largely based on echomail. Check it out and bear in mind that those sections have not been revised.

Ruth Argust, having a large collection of old Fido Nodelists found no trace of Todd in any Fido Nodelist prior to 1992. Questions as to why Todd has either lied about his Fido experience or his possible use of an alias "seemed to be" responsible for Ruth Argust having the first feed cut from the election echo. Jared tried to enforce a Zone Level feed cut but since he had no knowledge of the requirements one must meet for same (not surprising), had to be content with "read only" access for Ruth for one week. Ruth, in the meantime, was denied any opportunity to nominate or place a second on a candidate for the election. No one really knows why Jared cut the feed and he cannot or will not produce any message that caused his knee jerk response. He went even further, however, basically warning that any participant in the widely read SUPER-BITCH echo was subject to an immediate feed cut. This is the first time in history that a Moderator of a critical administrative echo has based his feed cut decisions on purported actions in another echo. Jared proved to the many echo readers that he indeed was the R10RVIAHH by publically accusing Jack Yates, a participant the S-B echo, of an action that was totally false. While Jared made a very half-ass apology, he again stuck his foot in his mouth by another wrong assumption he made towards Jack in the same post. Since Todd and Jared enjoy the same activity, sticking their foot into their mouths, one wonders if they enjoy sucking on each other's feet.

Jared's Moderator abilites have been questioned by many other participants, including other candidates. FidoLose has learned that a well respected member of the Fido community, Clay Tannacore, has now had his feed cut to the election echo. Where will the feed cuts end? Will Jared start cutting feeds of the candidate's themselves?

We shall be continuing election coverage to bring you the highlights of each candidate's statements and other juicy tidbits so keep checking this page for updates!
